Suresh Narain Idnani ,INDIA

 

Professionally, Dr. Idnani is a Nuclear Medicine, Maritime Health and Occupational Health Physician. His career spans almost three decades of practical experience and training in these areas of Seafarers Health and Welfare.  He is currently enrolled for a Postgraduate Masters’ in Maritime Medicine with the University of Tarragona, Spain.

Presently, he is the Regional Coordinator for South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh and Pakistan) appointed by the International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare (ICSW) and in this role he is also South Asia Coordinator for the Seafarers Health Information Programme (SHIP), International Seafarers Assistance Network (ISAN), and International Sports for Seafarers (ISS).

Dr. Idnani is elected Vice President and on the Board of Directors – IMHA. He is an active member of the International Maritime Health Association, and is working with them to develop a quality assurance accreditation scheme in Maritime Health.

Dr. Idnani is the founder president of the Maritime Health Association – India Chapter (MHA-IC) formed under the directive of Director General Shipping, Government of India. The Association has 50 enrolled and active maritime health medical practitioners as members.   
He has organized and conducted the IMHA Workshop on Quality Assurance in Maritime Health and the Seminar on Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention in the Maritime Industry, Mumbai 2006 and was a key speaker and presenter on Quality Assurance in Maritime Health and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention in the shipping industry. 
He has several academic achievements to his credit in the health related field of Maritime Education.  He is a Visiting Tutor and External Assessor in Maritime Health to the University of Tarragona, Spain.2006.  He is also the author to Lloyd’s Maritime Academy and National Sea Training Centre, conducting the diploma in crew agency. Module 9 – Seafarers Welfare; and was nominated WHO nautical health expert for the final revision of the 3rd edition of the IMGS. In 2007.

Dr. Idnani is a trained and Certified Ship Visitor from the Nautical Institute, United Kingdom, has been Workshop Leader at the Lloyds Conference in Manila, Nov 2006 speaking with reference to Quality Assurance in Maritime Health and Corporate Social Responsibility. He has made several presentations, led workshops and chaired sessions on Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention, Quality Assurance and Social Security, HIV at conferences in Odessa, Panama, Esjberg, and Colombo.

Dr. Idnani is the organizing Chairman of the 10th International Symposium on Maritime Health (ISMH10) to be held in September 2009 in Goa, India.   www.ismh10.com
